“It’s better to have a good player with the basketball in late game situations than to have plays” -Rick Pitino

***November 12th is the first day of the initial signing period***

Coach Pitino talks about the 2015 Class:

McMahon is tough and competitive shooting guard that owns the uncanny ability to make deep threes with accuracy and does so equally well both off the catch and with the use of the dribble. He is a knockdown 3-point shooter and understands how to get to his pull up when the defense runs at him with a hard close out. His passing and ball handling skills are strong as he has great passing vision and passes on time and on target along with a great feel for the game. He is extremely dangerous in ball screen action as he reads his defender and has the talent to shoot behind the screen or will reject the screen and navigate to score. His handle is effective and efficient with very little wasted motion and when he plays without the ball he knows how to free himself by cutting and reading screens. An excellent free throw shooter who demonstrates the ability to play a combo guard.
McMahon is a shooting guard with great passing skills and a high basketball IQ to make decision on the move. For a lethal long range shooter he doesn’t take defended shots and possesses a strong assist to turnover ratio. He competes on every possession, can be trusted to make winning shots and plays throughout the game and at crunch time. He could be close to a 180 shooter in college (50% fg, 40% 3pt, 90% ft). Reminds me of Riley LaChance of Vanderbilt.-ESPN

-3/10/15 McMahon and his family attended the Virginia game this past weekend and got to be a part of a very special day.

-Ryan led Cardinal Mooney to the Florida State Final 4 Averaging just under 30 PPG. Here are his Highlights from January-February

-2/20/15 Ryan had 31 points tonight leading Cardinal Mooney to the state Final Four…

-2/13/15 It is official Ryan McMahon has committed to the University of Louisville after receiving his offer just last night. This kid has a great looking jump shot and if there’s one thing that Louisville is going to need next season and going forward it is guys that can shoot the basketball. It will be interesting to see how fast Ryan can develop and adjust to the college game. He seems like a very savvy basketball player but only time will tell here. The best comparison I’ve heard so far is that to former Ohio State star Jay Burson.

-2/13/15 Russ Wood ‏@RussHoops 1 hour ago Per a source, Cardinal Mooney (FL) guard Ryan McMahon will be making his college decision in the morning. Was offered by Louisville today. Sounds like we will have a new Cardinal tomorrow.

-2/12/15 U of L offers sharpshooter Ryan McMahon

-2/12/15 Ryan McMahon had 31 points and 11 rebounds in front of Louisville assistant coaches Wyking Jones and Mike Balado tonight. Ryan also tweeted out that he got an offer from the Cards. If so I’d say you can count on this being commit #4 for this class.

-2/1/15 Ryan visited the UofL campus this weekend and attended the game against North Carolina. Word is that there was no official offer made but that he felt like Coach Pitino wanted him to be a part of the program.

-7/14/14 Deng Adel Committed to Louisville today and is now a member of the Cardinal family. Not a bit surprised by Adel news today as I have predicted this one for a few days. This is a very good get for Coach Pitino.

-7/13/14 Coach Pitino and his staff have been front and center during the first July Evaluation Period checking in on Adel. He seems to be the top priority for the 2015 class. I really believe that Deng will be the first commit of the 15 class.
Per 247Sports Adel says Louisville is just like family. Mango has been Adels coach at Adidas Unrivaled this week.

-6/10/14 Adel will visit the Louisville Campus on Thursday 6/12.

-Deng Adel on same basketball path as Mangok Mathiang

-5/17/14 The Cards Mango Mathiang and Adel are close friends from the same country, so this has to give a slight edge to Louisville. Adel has also menioned that he is very excited to be recruited by the Cardinals. Here is some recent highlights of Adel:

-4/28/14 Deng is a under the radar kid from Australia who played at Victory Rock Prep School in Florida this past season and is playing for the Florida Elite AAU team this summer. Scouts say that his jumper might actually be his trademark. He’s got a really nice mid-range game, strokes the 3-ball with ease, and he’s been compared to the most is Kevin Durant. I would mind seeing this guy in a Cardinal uniform and if you take the time to do some research on this kid you’ll see he’s got the kind of character that fits the mold. Louisville Coaches were front and center this past weekend during the spring evaluation period watching Adel. Keep a close eye on this guy.

-4/10/15 Ray meeting with the media at the Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball practice:

-Louisville commit Raymond Spalding doesn’t feel pressure as the hometown kid

-7/28/14 Louisville Commit Raymond Spalding just helped lead his AAU team to a National Championship. And he was awarded the MVP. He had 15 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals, one assist. Can’t wait to see this kid in a Cardinal uniform.

-AAU Nationals Saturday Recap: Raymond Spalding has upside

-7/26/14 Ray Spalding has had a great showing at the AAU Nationals and has put on a show for the local fans since committing to the hometown Cardinals. According to Michael McCammon of The. Cardinal Authority

“While checking out the action at the AAU Nationals today, I had a chance to chat with Mike Gandalfo of the Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic. He informed me that he extended an invitation to play in next April’s game to U of L commitment Raymond Spalding. The Trinity product is the first player to receive an invite.”

-Himmelsbach | A Louisville recruit’s quiet choice

-Trinity’s Spalding can feel Card love already

-7/20/14 It is official and Raymond Spalding has verbally committed to play for Louisville. Spalding becomes the second highly rated state product to commit to the Cardinals in the past two seasons joining Quentin Snider who joined the program in 2014.

It says a lot about the impact the hometown Cardinals are having on the best talent in the state. Louisville beat out Xavier and Indiana who were thought to be the other teams who had really pushed hard for Spalding over the last couple of months. You can see where Spalding ranks with all of the sites, get their take on the commit and check out highlights in the direct links above. This is another great add to the 2015 class. Coach Pitino and his staff are on a roll.

-7/13/14 Spalding had 36 points and 12 rebounds in his first game of the July Evaluation period. To say that has turned some heads is an understatement. He has said that Louisville is the leader for his services. Not surprising that this local kid wants to stay at home and play for the hometown Cards.

-6/11/14 Trinity’s Raymond Spalding will make an unofficial visit to Louisville on Wednesday for practice.

-3/9/14 Spalding was at the KFC YUM Center yesterday to watch Louisville play UCONN on Senior Day. It’s his second or third unofficial visit and he’s been to several games this season.

-2/3/14 The Cards have jumped into the mix with the hometown product Spalding, but haven’t offered yet. All three assistant coaches and Coach Pitino have been to watch him play.

-8/19/14 Louisville Sports Live talks with Donovan Mitchell to get an inside look at the commitment. Listen to the interview here:

-8/12/14 Donovan had a dunk at the famous Rucker Park that made the crowd go crazy:

-8/7/14 Well I had a great day but it got a lot better when Donovan Mithchell tweeted out tonight that he had committed to Louisville while on his official visit. He had also visited Villinova this week.

Donovan is one of the hottest players coming out of the summer and probably did more than anyone to improves his status. This kid is the real deal and will be a great addition to the Cardinal Red. Coach Rick Pitino is having one heck of a summer himself landing three of the top recruits in 2015 in the last few months. It very well may end up his best class ever at Louisville.

-8/3/14 Mitchell tweeted out his final list of 5 tonight.
